Acoustic Separation Systems
Sound reaches a neighbouring space by more than one route, and every system here is organised around the route it addresses. Airborne sound passes through the separating element itself. Impact sound is generated within the structure and travels through it. Flanking sound goes around the separating element, through floors, walls and junctions that were never the point. And sound can simply pass over a partition through a shared ceiling plenum.
Absorption inside a room and separation between rooms are different problems, and these entries keep them apart. No entry states an acoustic performance of any kind — no figures, no classes, no claim that anything is soundproof — because acoustic behaviour is a property of a complete, correctly built assembly in a real building, and belongs with a qualified acoustic professional. Ordinary partitions and ceilings are described under interior assemblies.
