An educational reference to the assemblies a building is made of — how each one is organised, what role every component plays in it, how those components interact, and which junctions with adjacent systems the design actually turns on.
Every entry is written on one principle: a system is more than its parts. How it behaves depends on climate, jurisdiction, loading, substrate, the systems it meets, the way the building is used, the manufacturer's instructions and qualified professional design. Nothing here is a specification, a calculation, a detail drawing, a compliance determination or a recommendation.

This encyclopedia explains how assemblies are organised. These sections cover the materials inside them, the choices between them and the preparation around them.
What this encyclopedia is not
- It is not a marketplace, a supplier directory or a brand comparison. No product, manufacturer, supplier, installer or proprietary system is named, rated, ranked or recommended anywhere in it.
- It is not a design service or an engineering database. There are no calculations, spans, load capacities, reinforcement or fixing schedules, layer thicknesses, dimensions, falls or gradients, and no drainage, HVAC or electrical sizing.
- It carries no prices, no cost comparisons, no service-life figures and no fire, acoustic or thermal ratings, classes or values.
- It does not determine whether an assembly complies with any requirement, is structurally adequate, is weathertight or is permitted in any jurisdiction. Those are matters for qualified professionals and the relevant authority.
- It is not an installation guide. Method, sequence and workmanship belong to the manufacturer's instructions and the trades carrying out the work.
