Subfloor Void

Overview
What a subfloor void is
A suspended floor stands clear of the ground, and the space between is the subfloor void. It exists so the floor structure is not in contact with the ground and so that moisture rising from the earth does not reach it.
That only works if the void is ventilated. Air has to move across it, from one side of the building to the other, carrying moisture out. A void that is sealed accumulates the moisture the void was created to keep away from the floor.

- It is not a ceiling void. A ceiling void is above a room and commonly contains services; a subfloor void is below and is about ground moisture.
- It is not a basement. A basement is occupied space with a structural retaining function; a void is an unoccupied gap.
