About this category

Between the structure that spans and the surface that is walked on, a floor commonly contains several distinct positions: a deck, a topping, a layer deliberately isolated from what surrounds it, and sometimes a void. Each behaves differently, and confusing them is how acoustic separation is lost.

These entries describe those positions. They do not state thicknesses, isolation performance, screed types or acoustic values, and they do not say whether a build-up will meet any requirement.
