Head Binder

What a head binder is
A head binder is a member laid over the top plate of framed walls, lapping the joints between adjacent wall panels. It ties those panels into a continuous line and spreads load arriving from above across more than one stud.
It exists because framed walls are built in panels, and the joints between panels are discontinuities. The binder bridges them.
