Internal Partitions, Linings, Ceilings and Wet Areas

Two partitions finished identically can behave nothing alike, because what decides them is out of sight: how the framing is set out and fixed, whether the cavity is empty or filled, how services cross it, and how it is closed at floor, at ceiling and where it meets an existing wall. The same is true of a lining set out in front of a wall, of a suspended ceiling, and of the void a ceiling creates above a room.

Boards, plasters, paints and tiles themselves are described in the materials library, and choosing between them belongs with the planning guides. Where a partition or floor exists to separate one occupancy from another rather than one room from the next, it is discussed under acoustic separation. Internal wet area waterproofing appears here as an assembly, without falls, tanking specifications or any assurance that a build-up will stay dry.
