An Inserted Element That Never Touches the Original Fabric

Building the new accommodation as an independent structure inside the shell, carrying its own loads and keeping a gap all round, so nothing new is fixed into historic fabric and the insertion could in principle be taken out again.

  • Reversibility is a claim about how the thing is built, which is why what is fixed to what is worth recording as the work proceeds
