Silt Trap

Overview
What a silt trap is
A silt trap is a chamber whose base sits below the level of its outlet. Water slows on entering, solids carried in it settle into the sump, and the water that continues onward is cleaner than the water that arrived.
It exists to protect what is downstream. Attenuation tanks, infiltration systems and pipework all lose capacity as they silt, and clearing a chamber is straightforward while clearing a buried storage system is not.
