What pet felt panel is

Polyester acoustic felt is made from polyester fibre, commonly including recycled bottle stock, laid into a web and thermally bonded so the fibres fuse to one another rather than being held by a chemical binder. The web is then compressed under heat into a self-supporting board with a dense felted face and a more open interior. It is produced as flat sheet and as moulded and folded forms, and it is coloured in the fibre rather than dyed at the surface.

The material differs from the fabric-wrapped acoustic wall panels described elsewhere in the library in a way that matters for how it is used. Those are assemblies: an absorbent core, a frame or backing, and a separate textile facing stretched over it. Felt is one homogeneous material that is both the absorbent body and the visible finish. There is no facing to come loose, no frame to build and no edge trim to conceal a core, which is why it can be cut to any outline and still look finished on every edge.

That single-material nature is why it appears in forms no wrapped panel can take. It is routed or knife-cut into shapes, tiles and fins; folded and welded into baffles and lighting shades; slotted so it can be bent into curves; and used as the backing to which timber slats are bonded in slat panel systems.
