What grp rooflight sheet is
A GRP rooflight sheet is made by combining polyester resin with glass fibre reinforcement and rolling the result into a profiled sheet while it cures. The reinforcement is dispersed through the sheet, which is why the material is translucent rather than clear: light passes through and is diffused. The weather face usually carries a surface veil or film intended to slow the effect of sunlight on the resin beneath it.
It shares that chemistry with the flat GRP lining sheet used on internal walls, and there the similarity ends. A lining sheet is a flat opaque internal facing, chosen for its surface. A rooflight sheet is rolled to match one particular metal roof or wall profile, made translucent to a controlled degree, and laid in the same run as the metal sheets so that daylight arrives within the plane of the roof rather than through a framed unit standing above it.
It is also a different product from polycarbonate glazing sheet, which is a thermoplastic extruded as flat or multiwall sheet and formed by different means. GRP is a thermoset composite, rolled to profile, and it is supplied either as a single skin or as a site assembled multi skin arrangement with a liner sheet and an insulated spacer, matching the build up of the metal roof around it.
