Overview
What a chamber is
An inspection chamber is a constructed access into a buried drainage run. It lets the flow be seen, lets blockages be located, and gives somewhere to introduce rods or equipment to clear them.
Chambers are placed where the run needs to be reachable: at changes of direction, at changes of gradient, at junctions, and at intervals along straight runs. Those are the positions where blockages occur and where they have to be reached from.

- It is not a gully. A gully admits surface water into the system; a chamber provides access to a run that is already carrying it.
