Overview

What a laying course is

The laying course is the thin layer immediately under paving units. Its job is to receive them: to let each unit be brought to the right level and to give it continuous support so it does not rock.

It is not a structural layer in the sense the sub-base is. Load spreading happens beneath it. What the laying course provides is accurate, uniform bedding across the whole underside of every unit.
