A stone-faced honeycomb panel is a composite. A block of natural stone is sawn into a thin face, and that face is bonded to a lightweight honeycomb backing, commonly aluminium, sometimes with an intermediate layer between the two. What arrives on site is a manufactured panel with a genuine stone surface, not a piece of stone.

The reason the format exists is that it lets a stone appearance be used in situations where a solid slab would be impractical.
