Overview

What a sleeper wall is

A sleeper wall is a low wall built off the ground within the void beneath a suspended floor. It exists to give the floor members above an intermediate bearing, so they span from perimeter to sleeper rather than the whole width of the room.

It is commonly built with deliberate gaps so that air can move through it, because the void it sits in usually depends on cross-ventilation and a solid wall across that void would obstruct it.
