What wet pour rubber surfacing is
Wet pour rubber surfacing is mixed on site and laid by hand. Rubber granules are combined with a polyurethane binder in a mixer and then spread and trowelled in place, normally as a base layer of shredded recycled granule beneath a wearing layer of coloured granule. It arrives as loose material and becomes a surface only through the laying process, which is why the result depends heavily on the crew doing it.
That is the difference from factory made rubber flooring. Sheet and tile are manufactured under controlled conditions to a consistent thickness and colour and then laid as finished goods; wet pour is formed where it lies. The advantage is that it can follow any plan shape, run seamlessly around equipment and posts, and carry inlaid colour and graphics; the trade is that consistency, texture and edge quality are site outcomes rather than factory ones.
What sits below matters as much as what is poured. These surfaces are laid over a prepared base, which may be compacted stone, a bound macadam or a concrete slab depending on the design, and the porous matrix means water passing through has to be dealt with by that base. Edges are formed against a kerb, an edging or a haunched detail, because an unsupported edge is where this material begins to break down.
